Every answer can be looked up
KOSMO names the documents an answer comes from and opens them directly in the built-in viewer. Instead of a statement with no origin, you get the passage it rests on – and can check in one click whether the answer holds.
From the sentence to the passage
KOSMO does not answer questions from a language model's memory but from your own documents. Every answer therefore lists the sources drawn on.
The referenced files can be displayed directly in the application – the PDF viewer is built in. No download, no hunting through the file storage jungle, no switching to a second program.
That is more than convenience: it is the precondition for being able to trust an AI answer in daily work at all. Anyone who can check does not have to believe.

Hallucinations: why source references are the most effective protection
Language models produce text that sounds plausible. Whether it is correct is another question – a model can invent a section number, a date or a responsibility without the wording giving it away. This behaviour is called hallucination, and it is the main reason AI answers often may not be used in daily work.
KOSMO addresses this on two levels. First, it does not answer from model knowledge but from your documents – the method behind this is called retrieval-augmented generation. Second, it discloses the documents drawn on and opens them on click.
That is more than convenience: only the evidence makes an AI answer usable in a business context. Anyone passing on information has to be able to say what it rests on – to clients, to citizens, to internal audit or to a supervisory authority.
The risk cannot be ruled out entirely by this, and we do not claim otherwise. An answer can shorten a document or weight it wrongly. The difference is that you can check that in one click instead of having to believe it.
Important on accuracy: KOSMO reproduces what is in your sources. If a source is outdated or wrong, the answer can be wrong too – we cannot therefore guarantee factual accuracy. That is exactly what the source reference is for: check the passage before using an answer further.

Does KOSMO invent sources?
The sources given are the documents actually drawn on for the answer – you can open them in the viewer and read the passage. Whether the answer summarises the document correctly is what you check against the evidence.
Which file formats can be displayed?
PDF documents are shown directly in the application. Which other formats make sense in your environment is something we look at in the demo.
Do I also see sources I have no permissions for?
No. Group permissions apply here too: sources outside your groups feed neither into the answer nor into the source reference.
Why is this particularly important with AI?
Because language models can produce plausible-sounding but incorrect statements. Evidence you open in one click makes that difference visible.
Does this rule out hallucinations?
No, and we do not claim it does. An answer can shorten a document or weight it wrongly. The difference is that you can check it against the evidence in one click instead of having to believe it.
What happens if there is no matching document for a question?
Then KOSMO says the answer is not contained in the sources you are cleared for, instead of constructing a plausible-sounding reply.
Can I see which passage in the document is meant?
The document opens directly in the application, so you read the passage in context – with longer policies in particular, the context is often what matters.
