What is KOSMO?
KOSMO is a GDPR-compliant AI assistant made by Splitbot GmbH in Lübeck, Germany: it answers questions from your own company knowledge – with a source for every answer, on-premise or in a German data centre, open source. Here are the key answers in compact form.
Who is behind KOSMO?
KOSMO is developed by Splitbot GmbH – an AI company founded in 2023 in Lübeck (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany), awarded the Schleswig-Holstein digitalisation prize. The team builds digitally sovereign AI for German-speaking Europe.
What does KOSMO do?
KOSMO is an AI assistant for company knowledge: it answers employees' questions from the documents and sources you provide – with a source reference for every answer (RAG technology). Web search can be switched off, the source code is open source, and the open language models used can be swapped at any time. A KOSMO app for iOS and Android is in preparation for use on the move.
Who is KOSMO for?
For organisations with high data protection requirements: companies and SMEs, law and tax firms, education and care providers, medical practices and clinics, public administration, banks and insurers. Professionals bound by confidentiality under § 203 of the German Criminal Code can use KOSMO too, because the data never leaves the building.
Where is KOSMO hosted?
Either on-premise on your own hardware or in a certified German data centre in Lübeck – with green IT hosting. There are no API calls to US providers and no dependency on a US cloud.
What about data protection?
KOSMO is GDPR-compliant: your content is not used for model training, role-based rights control access, and as a transparent internal knowledge management system KOSMO meets the requirements of the EU AI Act. Worth knowing: KOSMO reproduces what is in your sources – every answer is traceable via its source reference and should be checked on the substance.
How do I reach Splitbot?
By email at hello@splitbot.ai, by phone on +49 451 599 830 90, or in person: Splitbot GmbH, Seelandstr. 1, Geb. 6, 23569 Lübeck, Germany. A free live demo can be arranged via the contact page.
The key terms
What is RAG (retrieval-augmented generation)?
A method in which an AI searches your own documents for relevant passages before answering and answers only on that basis – instead of guessing from training knowledge. That makes answers current, verifiable and considerably less prone to hallucination.
What is a language model (LLM)?
An AI model trained on large amounts of text that understands and produces language. KOSMO relies on open language models – transparent and interchangeable, not a black box.
What does on-premise mean?
The software runs on the organisation's own infrastructure instead of in someone else's cloud. Data does not leave your own network – the strongest form of data sovereignty.
What does vendor lock-in mean?
Dependency on a single provider, at the mercy of its prices, licences or API changes. KOSMO avoids that through open source and interchangeable models.
