Your knowledge cloud becomes the knowledge base
KOSMO can connect folders from your knowledge cloud directly – from Nextcloud and from Microsoft OneDrive. The documents already sitting there become the knowledge source for the assistant, without anyone having to upload them again or maintain them twice.
Connect Nextcloud and OneDrive folders instead of maintaining files twice
Most organisations filed their knowledge somewhere long ago: in folders on a company cloud, grown over years. Instead of downloading those files and uploading them into KOSMO again, you connect the folders directly. Whatever sits there is available to the assistant as a knowledge source.
Supported are Nextcloud and Microsoft OneDrive. That saves the usual double maintenance – and the question that comes with it of which version is now current. Maintenance continues in one place: your cloud.
The sovereign route remains the default: Nextcloud is open source and often run on your own infrastructure – together with KOSMO, the whole chain then stays in your hands. Whether you connect OneDrive instead or in addition is your decision. Anyone already working with it does not have to migrate first; in either case KOSMO itself processes on-premise or in our German data centre.
What it gives you day to day
Documents are maintained in one place, not in two systems in parallel.
Your grown folder structure stays as it is – nothing has to be rebuilt.
Open-source building blocks on your own or German infrastructure – the whole chain stays in your hands. Whether you additionally connect OneDrive is your call.
Anyone whose documents are already in Nextcloud or OneDrive does not have to re-sort anything to get going.
Nextcloud or OneDrive – what the choice means in practice
Nextcloud is open source and can be run yourself. Anyone doing so keeps the whole chain in-house: file storage, processing and model. That is the route for organisations where the server location is not negotiable – public administration, law firms, institutions bound by professional confidentiality.
OneDrive is the pragmatic route for anyone already working with Microsoft 365. The documents then stay where they are today; nothing has to be migrated to get started. What that means for data protection is decided by your existing agreement with Microsoft, not by KOSMO.
In both cases: processing takes place on-premise or in our German data centre. KOSMO does not move your files into another cloud and trains no model on your content.
Anyone running both in parallel – which is more common than you might think – can connect folders from both systems. The group permissions apply regardless of which cloud a source comes from. What running it in-house means compared with our data centre is set out under Hosting & operation (in German).
How this works with permissions: Group permissions apply to connected folders as well – each group only receives answers from the sources it is cleared for. Which folders you connect is your decision.
Häufige Fragen
Which clouds are supported?
Nextcloud and Microsoft OneDrive. Whether another storage system can be connected is best clarified with us directly – connecting other systems is not promised across the board.
Do we have to change our folder structure?
No. KOSMO works with the structure you have. Which folders are connected is your decision.
Do the files stay in the cloud?
Yes. The documents continue to be maintained there; KOSMO uses them as a knowledge source to answer questions from them – with references.
Is this still GDPR-compliant with OneDrive?
Nothing changes about KOSMO: processing runs on-premise or in our German data centre, with no training on your content. Whether you connect OneDrive is your decision – for the cloud itself, your own agreements with the provider continue to apply. Anyone wanting to keep the whole chain sovereign connects a self-hosted Nextcloud.
How does this relate to group permissions?
Permissions in KOSMO continue to run through groups. Connected folders map onto them, so nobody receives content from sources they are not cleared for.
Does this work on-premise too?
Yes. Combined with a self-hosted Nextcloud in particular, the entire processing stays in-house.
Can we connect Nextcloud and OneDrive at the same time?
Yes. Folders from both systems can be connected in parallel – group permissions apply regardless of which cloud a source comes from.
What happens if we change or delete a file in the cloud?
Maintenance continues in the cloud. If you remove a document there, it also drops out as a knowledge source – nothing has to be followed up in two places.
